READING BETWEEN THE LINES, The Island's ONLY dedicated Spoken Word and Poetry night tumbles starry-eyed and semi-hungover into 2014 for more poetry-based shenanigans, and rampant misadventures in drunken lexicography.

We're thrilled to welcome a spoken word debut from ONE-LUNG WITHERZ. Louie has been holding things down as one third of BORN IN A BARN now for some time, and his unrelenting lyrical stylings have won him much acclaim. Clever word-play and a distinct flow mark him out as a singularly unique voice in UK hip hop.

He's joined by our residential guru, COOLY HASTE, to anyone who's ever been to one of our events before, you know that Cooly needs no introduction, but incase your new to us, let's fill you in. Cooly is a veritable tour-de-force of the south-coast UK hip-hop scene, having opened for legends such as Afrika Bambaataa, Akil of Jurrasic 5, Aloe Blacc and the Cold Crush Brothers.

They're joined by young blood CALLUM FAIRWEATHER. Callum was one of a precious few to make it to the finals of Bestival's Inaugural Spoken Word contest. He put forth a valiant effort, leaving us spellbound. The stars have finally aligned, and we're able to bring him back down to the island. Expect big things from this boy He's brutally honest, and unafraid to confront some emotions that would make lesser poets cower in fear.

As ever, opening up proceedings is our own cuddly poet laureate, KING STAMMERS. We tried telling him to sod off, but he just wrote another haiku about how it made him feel. Returning with his normal blend of sweary haikus, sardonic poetry, and maybe even yet more cute animal pictures means that if nothing else, you'll certainly see nothing else like it.

It takes a special someone to keep these wordy little so-and-so's in order, and we'll be announcing who that delicious person is sometime soon.

Each month we welcome new guests, different themes, new decor, new visuals and exciting twists and turns with every syllable.

£2 on the door all night.
