Caterham High School music students, from Ilford in East London, are no strangers to the Isle of Wight. Last summer the school’s string orchestra and wind band toured the island and were enthusiastically received wherever they performed, notably at the Charity Sunshine Ball in Cowes Yacht Haven and at the Northwood County Show.

So much did the youngsters enjoy their time on the island that the school has arranged a repeat trip for 2011. This time it is the school’s Chamber Choir – 26 students and staff aged from 12 to 55 - that is on tour. The choir rehearses twice a week and members have been working hard to prepare a varied programme spanning six centuries of English choral music. In between the choral items students will perform vocal and instrumental solos and duets.

Caterham High School Chamber Choir can be heard in action on Sunday 17th July, at 2.30 pm in the beautiful church of St. Mary the Virgin, High Street, Brading. Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection.

It is hoped that a good crowd will turn out to support these young musical Londoners.
