Future Works is a new regular event for 16-30 year olds on the IW to meet new people, make connections, and start collaborating. The event will feature exciting guests from all areas of the creative industries, brought to you by Brave Island, Platform One and IW Creative Network!

We’re always asked by young creatives how to get your foot in the door, get feedback on a piece of work, or just where to go to meet some new people on the Island! So we’ve come together to create Future Works, an exciting new FREE event for 16-30 year olds.

At each event we’ll be joined by industry professionals to discuss different topics around starting your creative career. But don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want to do in the future, this is all about meeting new people; the bar will be open with a DJ to soundtrack the event, so come down and enjoy a different way to spend your evening!

First event: Thu 15th Feb 2024, doors at 7pm, starts 7:30pm Strings Bar & Venue, Newport. FREE

February Guest Speakers:

At the first event we’ll hear from sustainable fashion designer Rosie Drake-Knight, filmmaker and photographer Reuben Mowle, and graphic designer and illustrator Michelle Lott.

Rosie is the founder and owner of Roake – a sustainable womenswear brand. They handmake garments from start to finish in their small studio in Ventnor. Roake was formed straight out of university (10 years ago) and since then it has developed to become the brand it is today, with comfort, flexibility and sustainability at its core.

Reuben Mowle is an award winning filmmaker and photographer from the Isle of Wight. Reuben has a portfolio of videos that collectively boast over 70 million views for him and his clients, showcasing a mastery of storytelling. His journey includes founding and successfully selling a production business, as well as now thriving as a solo entrepreneur.

Michelle from MooksGoo is an award-winning graphic designer and illustrator on the IW, who creates powerful, bold and quirky designs. Working with only a select few clients per year, MooksGoo provides a freelance design service, including logos and branding, websites, printed materials, and beyond.

So if you’re aged 16-30 and want to start a band but don’t know a drummer? Want to write a play but don’t know any actors? Maybe you want to film a showreel but don’t know a filmmaker? Then come along to Future Works on Thursday 15th February at Strings Bar & Venue in Newport.
