Artist Jan Frith invites you to turn the handle of her Singer sewing machine to read sewing memories and stories about sewing. Sewing Memories is an ongoing interactive artwork comprising an old Singer machine embedded with digital technology. Originally inspired by 1940’s stories of Make Do and Mend, it now reflects a broad range of people who have sewn, both for pleasure and in times of very urgent need. You are also invited to consider how sewing has touched your life and leave your own memory.
Alongside this exhibition at Ryde library, Jan will be running a series of creative sewing sessions including 'Sew, Style & Upcycle' creative sessions (at Network Ryde); plus ‘Sewing Saturdays’ and ‘Crafternoons’ (Ryde Library). You can find out more about these events:

Sewing Memories will be situated next to the main entrance of the library between 2-22nd February and the exhibition is accessible during normal library opening times:
