Internationally renowned pianist Viv McLean will make a very welcome return to Freshwater Memorial Hall on Saturday February 12th to give a recital for West Wight Arts Association. Viv is well known to Island audiences, having played several times for the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra as well as West Wight Arts Association. He has been noted for his

“Extraordinary originality, superb simplicity, and fingers of steel hidden behind muscles of velvet.”

Winner of the First Prize at the 2002 Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Viv McLean has performed at all the major venues in the UK as well as throughout Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Hamish Milne, and has recorded regularly for BBC Radio 3 since making his recital debut through the BBC Radio 3 Young Artists Forum scheme.

He will play four of Schubert’s Impromptus, the Sonata in C major K 330 by Mozart, Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata and the same composer’s Sonata in A flat major Op 110 as well as Howard Skempton’s Whispers and Liszt’s arrangement of Schubert’s song Litanei.
