Join us for an evening of classic jazz with an earthy funky edge featuring music from the 60s and 70s Blue Note Era from Jazz Trio “The Alley Cats” made up of Gary Plumley on Sax, George Bone on keyboard and Rupert Brown on drums. About “The Alley Cats” Gary Plumley, a professional Saxophonist since the age of twenty two, Gary’s more recent highlights have been working along side Michael Kiwanuka on his award winning CD, Going Home. There is a new recording with Sax Appeal with whom Gary has worked and recorded five cd,s over the last twenty five years. Gary spent twenty years touring and recording several cd’s with the late Terry Callier. http://youtu.be/dfC3IQ4w_Lk Gary recorded at least 10 CD’s with Snowboy and the Latin Section Band. Gary’s past has seen him working with such greats as: George Michael, Swing out sister, Lisa Stansfield, Four tops and also The Temptations Martha Reeves and the Vandellas to name but a few.. Gary has a broad soulful sound emerging from his main influences of R and B and various Jazz styles to include: Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Michael Brecker and David Sanborn. In the last few years Gary has been travelling in India and pursuing his interest in the Bansuri Flute. He has also recorded his own CD Crossing the Water, which features original compositions for Clarinet, Flutes and Saxophones. This recording is in a different style to any other CD’s Gary has previously recorded, this sees him in a contemplative and meditative style. Often found teaching Jazz Workshops and lecturing on Improvisation and jazz techniques. George Bone has been playing piano since the age of six and moved to London at the age of 18 quickly establishing himself on the jazz scene with gigs with the likes of Derek Nash, Martin Shaw and Laurence Cottle.From 2007 to 2012 George co-led fusion band Jazz Proof with saxophonist Duncan Eagles, releasing two albums and headlining venues such as Ronnie Scotts, 606 Club and Pizza Express, Soho. Other notable gigs include tours in India with Rhythms of Rajasthan, Egypt with Adam Clark Miller Quartet and Spain with Jump Club swing band. George has been concentrating on his original music since moving back to the UK in 2020, and his work has been featured in many productions including a feature-length cinema release from Film Four.

Rupert Brown works as a musician recording and performing with the likes of Darryl Hall, Shara Nelson (Massive Attack) Robbie Robertson (The Band), Roy Ayers, Jill Scott, Cher, Lighthouse Family and Nigel Kennedy … in the early nineties a major part of his engagements were taken up co -producing and writing for recording labels such as DC RECORDINGS, PEACE FROG AND HOLISTIC RECORDS making abstract minimalistic music, incorporating exotic instruments and creating landscapes and tones to a funk soul – Afro beat. During this period Rupert began a collaboration with Phil Gould … the fruits of this partnership produced a record titled : Gould, Brown and Black. This was to be the start of many varied and eclectic projects taking many twists and turns stylistically with a keen eye and ear on keeping the music original and challenging to both the performer and the listener. Since the 00’s Rupert has been producing artists and bands signed to labels such as PIAS , COLUMBIA, 1965 Records and WONDERFULSOUND RECS as well as holding down the drum chair at TOERAG STUDIOS working with Liam Watson, Tchad Blake, David Bottril and Steve Lipson.
