(US 1939 b/w – 130 mins)
Dir: Frank Capra
Cast: James Stewart, Claude Rains & Jean Arthur
Stewart plays Washington’s youngest and newly appointed senator who, through his own idealism, exposes corruption in high places, and in doing so almost ruins his own budding career by refusing to back down.
This brilliant classic film by Capra is a perfect example of the director’s mastery of lampoonery, but also shows that American politics haven’t changed that much over the years.
The programme will be introduced with a short talk by Tony Dalton
Tickets are £2.50 per person on the door and there is a bar open for the evening performances.
