Antonov an 2 arpingstone wikipedia

11am - 3pm (Weather depending)

Sandown Airport is having a bit of a 'do' on Sunday to raise money for a good cause.

They will be having, what in air plane circles is called a Fly-in. No prizes for guessing what happens there.

Of those planes that will be fly-in-ing will be an Antonov An-2. It's a Russian plane that was first manufactured in 1947, that until recently held the prize as the longest production run for a plane.

Antonov An-2 - Pretty large It's a single-engined bi-plane that can take up to 14 people, including crew, making it pretty large (as you can see from the photo).

Not surprisingly for a plane that was in productions for so long, it's got quite a history and we came across this Russian Website dedicated to it.

It's not at the airfield yet, but the hope is that weather will allow it to fly-in from its base in Popham.

The intention is to allow the public to walk about it.

Other things on show too Alongside that, there'll be classic motorbikes, cars and a few stalls for the public to entertain themselves at. The cafe will also be open.

There's no entrance fee, but there will be buckets around ready to take your contributions, which will go to the Macmillan Trust.

All attractions are weather dependant.
