Mayfest

Friday 6pm – Midnight | Saturday 11am – 11pm | Sunday 9am – 11pm

This May Day Bank Holiday Weekend, you are invited to a brand new, traditional Old English celebratory event.

Mayfest, to be held on the beautiful Yarmouth Green nestled between the Yar Estuary and Yarmouth Harbour will be a traditional weekend of live music, real ale and cider, great food, Maypole dancing, Morris Dancing and a whole host of other activities.

At just £2 entry for over 16s (£5 after 7pm), and free entry for under 16s when accompanied by a paying adult, Mayfest is an accessible, affordable way to spend some quality time with the whole family.

The event will open at 6pm on Friday April 29th to join in the celebrations of the Royal Wedding with an evening of live music featuring Island legends Dr Jones and the Blunt Instruments, before Mayfest kicks off in earnest at 11am on Saturday. With live music all day Saturday and Sunday, and local real ale, traditional ciders, great food, carnival skills workshops, traditional games and activities, wood carving and much much more there will be something to keep everyone entertained on site. The live music continues into the evening on both Saturday and Sunday featuring some of the best bands the Isle of Wight has to offer.

On Sunday May 1st, the May Day Jouvay procession from Fort Victoria returns for a second year, and this year will wind its way through picturesque Yarmouth town before culminating on the Mayfest site with Morris Dancing from Men of Wight, Oystergirls and Bloodstone, alongside all the other activities available on the Saturday.

Mayfest 2011 promises to be a superb way to kick start your summer, with heaps of wholesome traditional fun for all the family. Don’t miss this one!
