Hawkfest is a unique event staged by Hawkwind, and this year Hawkfest 2010 is planned to be very special indeed as the band are returning to Afton Down on the Isle of Wight, the site of the iconic 1970 Isle of Wight festival, where 40 years ago to the day, Hawkwind played outside the fence, in protest at the over commercialism of the event.
Both the current Isle Of Wight Festival and Bestival are held at different locations on the island making
Hawkfest 2010 the first live music event to take place at the Afton site since 1970.
The line up this year has not yet been finalised, but so far includes, amongst others, Girlschool, Here and Now, Dick Taylol from the Pretty Things, Mr Quimby’s Beard, Krankschaft, the Lloyd Langton Group, Syren and Hawkwind offshoot band TOSH (Technicians of Spaceship Hawkwind). With many more acts still to be announced we can say with some confidence that this will be the strongest Hawkfest line up ever, with all the usual children’s activities and workshops taking place…and of course, Question Time with Matthew Wright.
Also on offer are Traditional fairground side-stalls, including - Coconut shy / Archery Hoopla / Can game / Ball in the bucket / Juvenile strikers / Swing boats.
All attractions are traditional old time family fun for anyone from 1 to 101.
The Planet Rock Bar
Ticket numbers are limited, and are sold in advance only. Attendees must be the holder of a Hawkwind Passport, (free to obtain and proudly held by over 7000 fans worldwide) in order to purchase tickets for the festival.
