Saturday 4th August - Saturday 29th September. Quay Arts, West Gallery.
A touring exhibition of painting, sculpture and video celebrating the British on holiday. Expect ice-creams, deck chairs, clock golf and more...
Featuring the work of:
ANNA BARLOW / LYDIA BLAKELEY / DAY BOWMAN / JAKE CLARK / MARGUERITE HORNER / SOPHIE MARRITT / KITTY STIRLING / JUDITH TUCKER / AMANDA WALLWORK.
Whether it's a walk along the Jurassic Coast, a round of clock golf, lido swimming or traffic jams this exhibition has it all and more. Nine artists, through the use of paint, plaster, cardboard, found objects, ceramics and video, show us some of the ways that we Brits holiday both in Blighty and abroad.
Emphasising the fact that getting away is not a such recent activity, this exhibition includes some wonderful Victorian watercolours and illustrations by artists who visited the Island, plus examples of the fashionable 19th century craft of sand painting created from a variety of coloured sands from the beaches on the IW, all kindly on loan from the IW Heritage Service and Carisbrooke Castle Museum.
After its highly successful London exhibition at Arthouse1 Bermondsey, Getting Away! tours to Quay Arts in Newport for the summer months of August and September 2018.
Gallery open: Mon - Sat, 10am - 5pm.
