Chinese Thread Books or Zhen Xian Bao is a traditional folk art practised by women in remote areas of southwest China. They are books made of folded paper traditionally used to store embroidery threads and other small items. The book has many interlocking boxes that open and fold down flat. In this workshop you will make a Zhen Xian Bao that is an intriguing combination of a bound book, origami folds, and 15 compartmented boxes to store all kinds of treasures. Our books will be made with a choice of beautiful handmade plain and decorated papers.

TUTOR: Kae Carlesdt-Duke runs The Lazy Dog Press, a unique letter press studio on the Isle of Wight. As well as working with restored letterpress print machines and original wood and letter type to create hand printed stationary, Kae is a skilled book restorer and experienced tutor with a passion for artist books
