Ryota is a failed author turned sleazy private detective, who blackmails his clients, spies on his ex-wife and gambles away the child support for the son he adores. On the death of his spendthrift father, he returns home, looking for spoils.
As a typhoon threatens the city, the family is thrown together overnight, to the delight of his wise old matchmaking mother, who tries to broker a reconciliation.
Another moving family drama from director Hirokazu Koreeda.

Ventnor Film Society meets in Ventnor Arts Club, 13 High Street, Ventnor, which offers comfy chairs and HD projection.

Screenings mostly take place fortnightly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm (look out for exceptions).
Entrance is £6, with under 25s enjoying a discount of £3, payable at the door and the bar is open from 6.30pm.
Parking in Central Car Park or in Grove Rd, free from 6pm.
