We bring this film of Rossini’s comic opera La Gazzetta to the Island for the first time. It’s a charming high definition 2005 production from the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, directed by Nobel Prize-winning writer Dario Fo. It contains all the wonderful Rossini arias you would expect and is updated to a 1920s setting, in a pantomime-like world of glamour and comedy.
The Ryde Lions will provide one of their splendid full afternoon teas in the break, included in the ticket price, raising more money for Island good causes.
“…a tour de force of acrobatic silliness and barbed social satire. Of the cast, which included the inimitable Bruno Praticò and the lovely Cinzia Forte…it can only be said that it is difficult to imagine the piece sung or acted better.” (The Financial Times)
Tickets are £10 each including afternoon tea. It is essential to pre-book as only 40 seats are available. Please call Judith on 875738 or email her on [email protected] to reserve seats. Doors will open at 2.00pm. The film will start at 2.30pm and end at approximately 5.30pm, with an interval for tea. We now have 5.1 surround sound and full high definition.
