Freshwater Film Club present Silent screening with live piano accompaniment OUR HOSPITALITY (1923) (65 mins - b/w) Dir: Buster Keaton Cast: Buster Keaton, Natalie Talmadge & Joe Keaton
Set in 1830s, on the train home to Kentucky after his father’s death, New York educated Willie McKay (Keaton) falls for Virginia Canfield (Talmadge), the daughter of his family’s lifelong enemies. As the feud between the two families continues, Willie and Virginia pursue their love for eachother, despite attempts by the Canfield men to kill poor Willie by whatever means.
This was Keaton's first film as auteur (director, writer, producer and star) and his first masterpiece. Typical of his work, the film uses slapstick, situational comedy and dazzlingly inventive scenes to tell the story.
Sheer genius!
