Peter Collyer PhD, MMus, DipRCM, ARCM will introduce the recording of the historical performance of Mozart’s ‘Kegelstatt’ Trio K.498 shown on DVD. The Trio, first performed in Vienna in 1786, is Mozart’s only work for clarinet, viola and piano.

Playing on a restored eighteenth century viola (Peter Collyer) and modern reconstructions of a Lotz clarinet (Jane Booth) and a Walter pianoforte (John Irving) Ensemble DeNOTE explore the ‘Kegelstatt’ as a musical conversation, allowing themselves the freedom to improvise and embellish Mozart’s score.
