Enter the world of Victorian self defence and learn to fight like Sherlock Holmes!

Bartitsu was pioneered by Englishman E.W Barton-Wright in 1899 and is the basis for the martial art of Sherlock Holmes as mentioned by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is a mixed martial art consisting of defence with a walking cane, Savate (French kick-boxing), British Victorian boxing and ju-jitsu.

No previous martial arts experience is necessary, although dynamic and energetic movement should be expected as Bartitsu was conceived as a practical self defence for Victorian streets.

Each lesson begins with an authentic Victorian warm up and fitness training.

Students should wear comfortable sporting clothes, not too loose fitting, and trainers with a good grip. No equipment is necessary, although students are recommended to buy their own walking stick (basic high street type will do) and a pair of MMA gloves.

CLASSES: Every Monday at Newport Parish Centre (also known as Newport Minster Hall), Town Lane, Newport. 7:30-9. 1st Class £5, Classes thereafter £8, Booking of four classes £28.

Get fit the Victorian way!
