Based on Posy Simmonds cartoon strip, Stephen Frears’ film explores the Hardyesque tale of Tamara who, having successfully carved out a career as a self-absorbed newspaper columnist, returns to her West Country village to do up an old family house and write a bestseller.

Echoes of Far from the Madding Crowd emerge, as Tamara’s life appears to mimic Bathsheba Everdene’s as Moira Buffini’s adaptation of the book adds some twists and turns to the original.
