Music of the night

Music of the Night performs at Quay Arts on Thu 8 Jul in the Anthony Minghella Theatre at 8pm.

Star of Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, Rebecca Caine presents her new solo show, Music of the Night.

Rebecca has hand-picked a selection of songs from musical theatre for the show, featuring some of the best-loved classics from Les Miserables, Guys and Dolls and Cats. The show also features some of the lesser-known songs for the soprano voice in modern musicals. She will be accompanied by pianist James Church.

Born in Toronto, Rebecca came to England to study at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music in London. She uniquely specialises in both opera and musical theatre. Rebecca made her West End debut aged 19, playing the role of ‘Laurey’ in Oklahoma!.

She made her operatic debut at Glyndebourne, as ‘Amor’ in L’incoronazione di Poppea, after which she was invited to join the Royal Shakespeare Company.

During her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Rebecca was chosen to create the role of ‘Cosette’ in the first production of Les Miserables on the UK stage. The show opened at the Barbican in 1985, and received rave reviews, going on to become one of the most popular shows in the West End and Broadway.

After her success as ‘Cosette’, Rebecca joined the original cast of The Phantom of the Opera, starring as ‘Christine’, opposite Michael Crawford. She then returned to her native Canada to pursue both her musical theatre and operatic career.

Rebecca has performed some of the greatest roles in musical theatre and opera on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as having an extensive cabaret career.

Music of the Night is a chance to see this wonderfully talented and experienced performer in an intimate space singing her favourite songs from her prolific career.
