Freshwater Film Club screening, introduced by film historians Tony Dalton and Tim Nicholson
Dir: Albert Lamorisse
Cast: Alain Emery, Laurent Roche & Pascal Lamorisse
Dir: Albert Lamorisse
Cast: Pascal Lamorisse, Sabine Lamorisse & Georges Sellier
Two very different short French films that are both more like drama documentaries than features. White Mane tells of a young boy (Emery) who comes across a white-haired horse in the marsh area of the Camargue in Southern France. In The Red Balloon, another young boy (played by Lamorisse’s son, Pascal) makes friends with a balloon that begins to follow him everywhere as they try to evade a gang of boys intent on destroying it.
Both films are full of love and hope, searing sorrow and overwhelming joy, but it’s the striking performances by the two boys and the stunning cinematography by Edmund Séchan that makes these movies so memorable
All the screenings start at 7.00pm (doors open at 6.30pm) and membership for the season is £21.00 (or £3.00 per film on the door).
