Starring Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952-2023) and the Yellow Magic Orchestra, this film tells us the man's story from tech-pop stardom to Oscar-winning film composer. Ryuichi Sakamoto's music coincides with life's journey. His haunting awareness of life's crises leads to resounding masterpieces. This 2017 documentary, directed by Stephen Nomura Schible, is an intimate portrait of both artist and person. Sakamoto's standout film music credits range from Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence (Ryde Film Club's December screening) to The Last Emperor (RFC's March 2024 screening), and from Black Rain to The Revenant.
Ryuichi Sakamoto : Coda lasts 1 hour 40 minutes.
