The RVYC has been welcoming guests to its Open Day for People with Disabilities since 1981, which was the first International Year of Disabled Persons.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 8th July from 11.30am to 5.30pm.

Over 120 guests have registered to join us for trips out on the water, a BBQ lunch, tea and cakes.

A variety of boats will be available for our disabled guests to take trips along Wootton Creek and out into The Solent.

Some will venture out on fast RIBs, some on sailing boats, with our wheel-chair users able to get afloat on Wet Wheels or Spirit of Scott Bader.

Invited guests include Sight for Wight (IW Society for the Blind), Mountbatten, IoW Physically Disabled, Ryde House, Hazelwood House, Southern Housing plus individual Island families with disabled members.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Anne Longford, the High Sheriff, Dawn Haig-Thomas and Debbie Andre, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, will be joining us to spend time with our guests.

This event can only happen with the help of our RVYC members and volunteers who give their time, and provide their boats, so everyone can have a great time both on and off the water.

We wish to acknowledge our event supporters including Fishbourne Parish Council, Daisie Rich Trust and Wightlink, as well as our local residents who provide additional parking for the day.

If you would like to experience the day with us, please contact the RVYC Team for further information: [email protected]
