Tony trowbridge

These evocative life studies are a form-specific project.

Inspired by the female nude, Tony Trowbridge creates this body of work through the medium of monoprint, bleach and spray can.

Trowbridge is a talented outsider artist who delves into different pools of the art world. Although he works in many different mediums from acrylic, bleach and inks, his main means of communication is through the aerosol can.

These series of paintings, sketches and monoprints show how serious he is about his drawing from life models.

His spray can art starts as a pencil sketch from which he creates many layers of templates, painstakingly cutting out each layer by hand.

He has exhibited in Princes Square, Glasgow; Loseby Lane, Leicester; Impure Art Gallery, Brighton and Montmartre in Paris. He is a qualified earth scientist and a passionate and gifted artist.

These two mediums found him a residency in Coober Pedy, South Australia where he lived in a cave, standard dwelling in that part of the world due to the heat, and worked alongside the opal miners and the community sketching the flora and fauna and the opalised fossils.

His interest in the urban art scene granted him a residency in Tokyo in 2004 where he lived in traditional Japanese housing in Yokohama while he studied the Japanese urban art scene at Akihabara, the manga and animation centre of Tokyo.

When he is not travelling and exploring new and diverse cultures, Tony works from his studio in St Johns Road in Sandown.
