Set against the backdrop of 18th century England where inequality and superstition were the norm, the illegitimate daughter of a clergy man was born – Molly Downer!

The Molly Downer Musical tells the story of a young woman’s struggle to find her place in a world that was openly hostile to her very existence. At its core, the musical is the story of what was seen as forbidden love and the struggle to be who people truly are. Molly recognises that she is different at an early age, and although she has the acceptance of her mother, she knows deep down she must keep her true self secret. She is trapped in a world where not only does she have no rights because she is a woman, but she must also struggle with living two lives. Ultimately Molly suffers betrayal and loss through no fault of her own and descends into a life of loneliness and madness.

Based on the Isle of Wight story of the last Island witch, this production holds a light up to the injustices towards the LGBTQIA+ community, then and now.

The musical is a wholly Island production, with original music and songs.

Time Nor Tide Players is a community theatre production group that embraces inclusion and diversity; all members of the production are LGBTQIA+ and allies.
