Since the Binstead S19 Flooding report, extensive progress has been made on how to tackle the flooding and next month there is a drop in session for residents to have their input on the plans moving forward.

Cllr Ian Dore, Ward Councillor for Binstead and Fishbourne, said,

“There is nothing like the Mark 1 eyeball and residents in Binstead have been superb in sharing their detailed feedback. This contributed to the S19 report and if you read it, you will see that there are various options to combat the flooding problem we have.

“The stakeholders and I, believe it’s vital that residents have a say on how we move forward and engage on this issue. They fed into the report and they should feed into the work proposals and options available to us.

“To that end we’ve jacked up a drop-in session at the Community Centre where residents can swing by and have a chat with all involved. Maybe a quick round of darts or pool too if that’s your bag.”

The Isle of Wight council, in its role as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), is holding this drop in session at Binstead Community Centre on Monday 5th December from 3pm – 7pm.

Representatives from IWC, Southern Water and the Environment Agency will be present and local residents are welcome to come along at any time between 3pm and 7pm and discuss some of the options being considered to help address the flooding issues experienced in the Binstead area over recent years.

Ian Dore said,

“This is another milestone moment for Binstead. We’ve got the money secure in the budget and we have different options on the table, plus as I’ve said before; some work has been done already. This is ramping things up a tad.

“It’s also a golden opportunity for residents to see and meet who is involved. Please come along and become part of the process. Its genuine community engagement, and I would hope that many are passionate enough to rock up, share their views and in doing so; help shape the future of flood mitigation in Binstead.”
