Artist Kathy Williams has always prioritised the process of making as being the most important aspect of her painting, with the image as a secondary concern.

Her current work researches the idea of Painting As a Democratic Act (PADA) - which can be seen in a multitude of different ways and further influenced as an iterative process through public engagement. Kathy says:

“There is no hierarchy of painted marks, there are no rules to the organisation of painted marks. Within this space, I am testing ideas of interior/exterior, knowledge/instinct and control/instinct.”

For @ARCH_WindowGallery space, Kathy has installed an array of abstract painted marks within the window space as an exploded three-dimensional painting. She invites you to participate at the gallery by taking a photograph of the work from your own perspective and uploading it via Instagram to @kathywilliamsartist – this will be your contribution, your composition of a two-dimensional image uniquely from your perspective. During the month on Fridays Kathy will adapt the installation, reacting to all the photographic contributions people have sent to her.... and encouraging people to participate.

The artwork therefore exists as both a myriad of online shared public images and the evolving three-dimensional work, with elements influenced solely by this space and its participants.
