Recycling and reusing materials and found objects is often at the heart of mixed media artist Mary Flynn’s work.
In the spirit of the Boojam, the Jubjub and the Bandersnatch created by Lewis Carroll, Mary has let her imagination run free.
Using a technique called Decoupage that was popular in Victorian times, a recycled screen and a sense of fun, Mary has conjured an imaginary landscape populated by curious creatures. The collage on one side of the screen was made from found images and on the other side, inspired by Isle of Wight locations and animals. The panels were then printed professionally. Mary says
“For this work I had a young audience in mind: the screen and sculptural creatures provide a stimulus for story-telling.”
