Part of Isle of Arts Festival 2013
/home/ubuntu/eotw_front/releases/20200217123746/2013/04/19/the-paul-armfield-band
Friday 19 April, 9pm, Spyglass Inn Boathouse. £6.50
Paul Armfield has been described as "Johnny Cash meets Isaac Hayes". Others have dubbed his music "Folk Noire", reflecting the fact that his musical influences are as much European as Anglo American.
He has been praised by The Irish Times for his reflective and literate songs. The Sunday Telegraph's verdict is that Paul has “a gorgeous voice and a very seductive stage presence...he ought to become a huge star".
This year is the 10th anniversary of the release of Paul's first album and he has just finished recording his fifth solo album, which is due for release in October. This gig for Isle of Arts will be the first outing for the line-up that performs on the record, including Rupert Brown on drums (a modest yet off-kilter genius), J C Grimshaw on guitar and mandolin (a local legend), Rafe Spencer on double bass (Paul reckons Rafe is even better on the double bass than he is!) and Dave Godby (a hugely talented multi-instrumentalist) on pedal-steel and assorted other exotic instruments. There may also be a few guest appearances by various other local musicians.
This will be will be an unmissable gig.
