Broadcaster and travel writer Stuart Maconie comes to Ventnor to reveal the stories behind his twin passions – music and fell walking.
Those of you who only know Stuart from his long-running Radcliffe and Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2 will be delighted with his extraordinary journey and traveller tales that quickly become more gripping than you imagine.
He is a muso that the musos listen to. He hosts The Freak Zone on BBC 6Music on Sunday afternoons and has written and presented dozens of other shows on BBC Radio.
Stuart is also one of the UK’s best-selling travel writers. His work has been compared with Bill Bryson, Alan Bennett and John Peel and described by The Times as a “National Treasure”.
His latest book Hope and Glory goes in search of the places, people and events that have shaped modern Britain. Some were glorious days, some were tragic, or even shameful, but each has played its part in making us who we are as a nation. From pop stars to politicians, Suffragettes to punks, this is a journey around Britain in search of who we are.
