The Ventnor Fringe Festival is a modern pilgrimage. An open arts festival in which anyone can take part, dedicated to celebrating the power of art through performance, discussion and participation.
Developed as a health spa and centre of wellbeing Ventnor, on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight, was the source of inspiration for some of the greatest literary figures of the Victorian Era, with writers such as Dickens, Swinburne, Tennyson and Marx all spending time in the town.
The Ventnor Fringe Festival aims to re-establish and develop the ambitions of the towns founders and create a centre of learning, arts and emotional enrichment.
A place where not just writers but artists of all disciplines can showcase, develop and create work.
The Isle of Wight's answer to the world famous Edinburgh Fringe, the Ventnor Fringe takes place over four days in locations encompassing the entire town, from parks to basements, churches to courtyards, all play host to artists in disciplines as diverse as spoken word, film, music and theatre.
The 2011 Festival will run from the 17th - 20th August 2011 to coincide with the 122nd Ventnor Carnival celebrations and is an open arts festival in which artists from any discipline and from any location in the world can take part in, performing and experimenting with their work, networking and developing new skills and ideas.
