Songs on a summer's evening - NHS Nightingales & IW Glee

The award-winning NHS Nightingales and special guests IW Glee present a sunny selection of beautiful songs.

Price: £5.00

The NHS Nightingales are a relatively new musical venture on the Island. Founded only 2 years ago by clinical lead nurse for mental health, Stacey Cripps, the choir, made up of current and retired NHS staff, from receptionists to midwives and executives to physiotherapists, recently won a presitigious award for positive mental health and well-being of NHS staff.

The choir was developed as a result of the popular hit TV series with Gareth Malone, “Sing While You Work” and the choir has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of musical director and vocal coach, Hannah Brear and accompanist Richard Wiseman who rehearse with the choir each week. In their short time together, the Nightingales have performed several times at Medina Theatre and at the Quay Arts Centre, but also at the Isle of Arts Festival in 2014 and recently at Shanklin Theatre alongside Paul Carrack from Mike and The Mechanics, where they sang a new arrangement of “In the living years”.

Hannah Brear and Richard Wiseman have worked together with a range of choral groups for many years now and are incredibly proud of how far the choir has come in such a short space of time.

Also performing with the NHS Nightingales are the IW Glee club and supergroup, Ultratonix, who recently got through to the third round of Britain’s Got Talent after only a few weeks of rehearsal. Both youth groups sing in harmony and combine voice and movement to entertain and move all those who are lucky enough to catch them in one of their rare public performances. Hannah Brear and Mary Bowdery have worked together for several years and founded the group “Resonate” which went on to win the BBC’s Comic Relief does Glee Club in 2013. IW Glee is part of Starlight Boutique which is the successful company behind a whole range of dance education opportunities and entertainment events on the Island.

Whether you enjoy rich, warm harmony, a whole range of music from classical to pop, musical theatre to jazz, funky moves and cheeky tunes, “Songs for a Summer’s Evening” is one not to missed.
