West Wight Arts Association concert April 9th

Following the great success of its March concert featuring eight international musicians, West Wight Arts Association is delighted to announce that the April concert, to be held in the Memorial Hall, Freshwater on April 9th at 19.00, will be given by the Berlin based Japanese-American violinist Mayumi Kanagawa and the Italian pianist Viller Valbonesi.

Mayumi was a prizewinner at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and 2018 Long-Thibaud Crespin competition in Paris. She is establishing herself as a soloist and chamber musician in Japan, Europe, and North America. Viller Valbonesi has won prizes in many competitions and in addition to performing as a soloist is also active as a chamber musician and song accompanist. He teaches piano and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ Berlin. They will play Mozart’s Violin Sonata in F, K.377 and a transcription of Stravinsky’s Divertimento “The Fairy’s Kiss” in the first half. Schumann’s Violin Sonata no 2 in D minor will be followed in the second half by Three Preludes for Violin and Piano by Gershwin arranged by Heifetz, guaranteed to send the audience out humming.

Tickets at £15.00 (Students and Children £2.00) are available from WWAA’s website www.westwightarts.co.uk or Totland Parish Office 756028. In view of the rising covid rates on the Island we would be grateful if you would take a lateral flow test before the concert and wear a mask during it. Windows will be open so wear something warm.
