Tom hall chasing sputnik rocket lr

The West Gallery, Quay Arts, Sat 21 Sep - Sat 23 Nov.

Preview Sat 21 Sep 2 - 4pm All welcome.

Working in partnership with Arts University Bournemouth, artists Roy Brown, Julia Flatman and Tom Hall, respond to ideas thrown up by the former rocket testing facility of the British Space Programme at West High Down. Through the recreation of giant rockets in cardboard, mixed media spacesuits and neon flags, they take the optimism of early national space dreams and create a sense of excitement about our future.

The project examines the ways in which the British experience of space has been portrayed and how it has seeped into public consciousness through design, literature and entertainment, igniting boyish dreams of interstellar travel and going to the stars.

Tom Hall will be discussing his artSOUTH commission 'Midnight' at The Needles New Battery, as well as 'Chasing Sputnik' on Sat 28 Sep. Please visit http://quayarts.org/event.aspx?id=3826 for further details and how to book.
