‘Fusion’ is a collaborative exhibition in structure and sound bringing together the predominantly steel forms of sculptor Ken Prust and the sounds of audio artist and composer Tuuligan.
The physical works, large and small, are principally of steel and hardwood native to the Isle of Wight. The soundtrack composed specifically for this collaborative exhibition takes reference from the physicality of the steel, working with it as a sculptural material and the location in which the sculptures are displayed, Quarr Abbey.
Ken Prust draws reference from the coastal environment and the objects and structures which either by chance or deliberate action have become embedded within it. Reconfiguring the familiar the tactile sculptures incorporate echoes of industry, the action of the natural elements and the passing of time.
The composition of Tuuligan is built on real recordings of the sculptor working the materials in his workshop. It is complemented with sounds at times akin to music, at times akin to the sounds of the stages of the journey of the materials from the woods and foundries via the sculptor’s workshop to the Abbey.
