HOLLAND: an exhibition by Mark Lotterman. West Gallery, Quay Arts.

Rotterdam based singer/songwriter Mark Lotterman found a very special way to release his 5th record: HOLLAND. He asked painters, writers, scientists, schools and photographers to respond to one of the songs from his album.

All the contributions are shown on https://albumholland.com where Lotterman releases a new song every month. Quay Arts has the honour to hold the first main exhibition of this diverse collection in the West Gallery. The exhibition will showcase works by some of the most celebrated upcoming artists from the Netherlands as well as a collection of letters a German soldier wrote to his girlfriend in World War II, found by Lotterman. All disciplines, even outside the art world, will be covered. There’s only one thing that unites them: Mark Lotterman’s songs.

Quay Arts have played host to previous exhibitions with performances by writers and musicians, responding to the visual art work in the gallery. HOLLAND reverses this format by allowing artists to respond to Lotterman’s music, bringing the work to a wider audience – showcasing all disciplines under one roof. The album HOLLAND brings truth, love and heartache amidst a poetic landscape filled with paced and tempered sounds. The album will be fully available online this autumn and can be purchased as a box set from Quay Arts throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Exhibition continues until Saturday 2nd July.

Gallery opening times: Mon - Sat 10am - 4pm.
