Cloud Collecting : Lisa Traxler | Saturday 19 March – Saturday 16 April 2016 | Curve Gallery, Quay Arts.

Gallery opening times: Mon - Sat 10am - 4pm.

'Cloud Collecting' is a commissioned installation of printed paper and stitched thread, connected by restraints of thread within the Curve Gallery, made in response to the Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour exhibition, shown in the West Gallery at Quay Arts.

Generation ART: Young Artists on Tour is a touring exhibition of children and young people’s artwork aged 5 – 18. For more information on the Generation ART exhibition, please visit www.quayarts.org/event/generation-art/

Lisa Traxler’s installation is informed by the text and language following social media about the Generation ART touring exhibition, which has travelled from Turner Contemporary, Margate to New Walk Museum and Art Gallery and Soft Touch Arts in Leicester. The title itself, ‘Cloud Collecting’ denotes computer language, sharing resources and data to achieve coherence.

The pure joy and pride the young artists project in their work is articulated within streams of Facebook and Twitter ‘posts’. These contemplations, responses and themes have been collected and then, in an aleatory literary technique, dissected and further re-created into the seamed-together paper ‘thought clouds’. Visitors are invited to add their own deconstructed words to the ‘interactive poetry wall’ in the gallery.

Lisa Traxler (ARWS, NAPA) combines painting, 3D form and collaged works on paper within her art practice. Her award winning art has been exhibited widely in the UK including the RWS Bankside Gallery, Mall Galleries and Royal College of Art in London. Her work can be found in private and public collections throughout the UK, Hong Kong, New York, Australia and Italy. The Cloud Collecting installation is part of a series of site specific ‘Paperscapes’ the artist has been evolving with stitched paper works installed in Winchester Cathedral, Fort Brockhurst English Heritage, Mottisfont House National Trust and Artspace Studio Residency, Portsmouth.
