Vaguely Sunny in patnership with The Freshwater Circle presents: MARIANNE NORTH - TRAVELLER AND NATURE PAINTER An illustated talk by Michelle Payne at Dimbola Museum & Galleries. Sunday,September 3rd 2017 Tickets £8, (Friends of Dimbola £7)

Marianne North was a very remarkable traveller and painter who traversed the globe, visiting fifteen countries in fourteen years -  some of them more than once. During her travels, she carefully and lovingly recorded the worlds fauna with her paint brush and wrote her experiences in her journal. In 1879 she offered her wonderful collection of over 832 paintings to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and at own expense built a gallery to house them. Marianne stayed with the project, painting beautiful decorative motifs on the interior door panels and surrounds. To visit the Marianne North gallery at Kew today and to view her vivid and highly colourful paintings is an exquisite experience.

Michelle Payne is the author of the respected book 'Marianne North - A very Intrepid Painter'.  Michelle is looking forward to being at Dimbola where she will give an enlightening illustrated talk about Marianne's life and travels, including her time in Ceylon when she stayed with Julia Margaret Cameron.

Copies of Michelle's book will be available to purchase at the talk.

The talk will be in Julia's Tearoom & refreshments will be available to buy.

Tickets are available directly from Dimbola or by calling us on 01983 756814
