3 week course from 3rd to 17th November

We will be looking at successful portrait painters from throughout Art History and referencing their approaches to portrait painting. Starting with the structure of the face, participants will study profile, three quarter and ‘face on’ angles, while drawing from a model. We will work from male and female models and paint portraits in the style of Holbein, Mondrian and the Scottish Colourists. In the last session we will paint a portrait using participants’ own approach.

Materials: please bring acrylic paint, small soft brushes, Daler board or small canvas and a desk easel if you have one.

Please bring Cartridge Paper and drawing materials: Pencils, Charcoal, Graphite, Erasers.
