A talk by Dr Colin Pope in the Echium Room at Ventnor Botanic Garden on Wednesday, 20th January at 7pm.
Ancient woodland is an irreplaceable resource. A site which is known to have sustained woodland over at least the past 500 years has a rich and specialised flora and fauna, with many species more or less restricted to ancient woodland sites. If we are to protect this then it is important to understand where our ancient woodland is. Natural England, working with the Forestry Commission, has mapped ancient woodland across the UK and has produced a Provisional Woodland Inventory. In 2014, the Countryside Section of the Isle of Wight Council carried out an exercise to map and better understand the woodland resource on the Island.
The Plantation Room Cafe will stay open at 5pm until 8.30pm.
