Well-known as the voice of morning radio, Isle of Wight Radio presenter Paul Topping regularly brightens the start of our day. But last month the jokes took on a serious tone as local comedian Richard Quigley challenged Topping, on-air, to perform a stand up comedy skit at the Quay Arts Centre to raise valuable funds for local cancer charity the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
Having set the challenge, it will be down to Quay Comedy Club regular, Richard Quigley, to train Topping as he steps out of his comfort zone as family friendly radio presenter and transforms into a sharp, scathing, one-line comedian.
Richard gives us an insight into putting Paul through his stand up paces “Its great fun training Paul, as he is naturally funny and makes my job pretty easy. Though getting him not to do the weather report in between gags is proving difficult”
Join us for one night only to see if Isle of Wight Radio presenter Paul Topping can stand up and deliver a night of hilarity and laughter on Fri 12 July 8pm, doors 7:30pm at the Quay Arts Center. Tickets are £12 and available from www.quayarts.org/event.aspx?id=3718
All money raised from the night will be donated to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust. Launched in 2003 the aim of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is to give young people in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing. Celebrating their 10th year anniversary, the Trust has grown beyond every expectation into a national charity.
