The Bestival Foundation is proud to present Rob da Bank’s Music Club in partnership with the Isle of Wight Youth Trust
TUESDAY March 27th at QUAY ARTS in NEWPORT (5:00-7:00pm)
14–18 yrs olds only
Somewhere to go to after school to hang out, be inspired, entertained & learn the occasional thing along the way
This month the Academy of Contemporary Music from Bournemouth are joining us and adding electric drum workshops to the mix.
The tutors will be on hand to teach and to answer questions about education and careers in the music industry.
Our special celebrity guests this month are Lucky Elephant – one of the bands signed to Rob da Bank’s Sunday Best record label (and an act who regularly perform to great acclaim at Bestival).
Lucky Elephant have just finished recording the follow up to their ‘Starsign Trampoline’ album at the mighty Metropolis Studios (with the Island’s very own Paul Butler (The Bees) on production duties - fresh from his recent Michael Kiwanuka producing triumph). The brand new album is due for release on the Sunday Best label later this year.
When not being an Elephant, Sam from Lucky Elephant teaches music production and band workshop sessions with Community Music in London.
The Music Club will again take over every room at Quay Arts (including the gallery and theatre) this month and fill each space with DJ workshops & demos, digital & live music workshops, photography and AV workshops, singing workshops, street dance and a jamming session.
Other confirmed workshops & demos;
DJ workshops 5-7pm
Live Music production (with Lo from New Order’s production team) 5-7pm
· AV workshops in the Gallery (5-7pm) with Lucy Boynton teaching photography to AV techniques
· Street Dancing (5.30 -6.30pm)
· Guitar, Bass, Singing and Live and Electric drum Workshops 5-6pm (with an option to move to the Theatre for the jamming session 6-7pm)
And Island teens are also invited to come along if they would like to just be able to generally chill out with music (free squash and snacks provided for those hungry from school too).
