Granny’s Meade, off Bedbury Lane, Freshwater

Freshwater Parish Council’s aim is to get greater public involvement in this open space, accordingly they wish to set up an independent group to help look after it. The Footprint Trust have been involved in the planning of this ongoing project, which has been funded by West Wight Landscape Partnership and the Parish Council.

A meeting is to be held for those interested in officially setting up the ‘Friends of Granny’s Meade’ group. This will take place on Tuesday 27th March at 7pm at Freshwater Memorial Hall, Avenue Road. Representatives from the Parish Council and The Footprint Trust will be there to give guidance and answer questions. Following this the group will be officially started.

Over the past few months the hedges have been cut back, scrub removed and wildflower seeds sown. The local Beaver Cubs and lots of local people have been assisting in tree and hedgerow planting and growing native wildflower seeds.

Many people took seeds away to nurture and care for – and it’s nearly time to plant the seedlings out. We have set a time during the Easter Holidays so that local children can come along and help. Thursday 5th April from 10am to 12 noon in Granny’s Meade. Please wear stout footwear and old clothing. Children must be accompanied.

Please contact Ray Harrington-Vail if you would like more information on (01983) 822282 or email [email protected]
