An Audience with Shurl weaves Sue Bevan’s own life story with a fantasy of being the world’s greatest Shirley Bassey fan. Torn at an early age from the home she loved, young Shurl comes to believe that international superstar diva Dame Shirley Bassey can, ‘make everything alright’. When she leaves school she determines to follow her to the ends of the earth if needs be. But when the two women finally come face-to-face, will our Shurl find what she’s really looking for?

Sue Bevan is currently Artist-in-Residence at Ryde School. She is a theatre-maker and award-winning writer. The real-life story accompanying this show is told in Sue’s memoir, That Picture of You, published by Amazon.
