Simon Jones creates marine-based paintings of local scenes. Using an intensified hue, his paintings give a warm Mediterranean effect. He uses a bright palette formed mainly from primary colours, giving the paintings vibrancy; this is contrasted by the calm scenes and controlled brushwork. Many of the paintings have a graphic design quality, which gives the impression of a screenprint.

Island artist Simon Jones studied at Portsmouth College of Art and Manchester Metropolitan University, before going on to gain a P.G.C.E in Further Education in Art & Design at Bolton Institute. Throughout the early stages of his life, Simon was surrounded by his fathers artwork and images of the impressionists. Simon's work and influences have included mixed media sculpture and live arts.

The paintings in Sun Marine Coast draw their inspiration from Fauvism, using intensified or non-realistic colours; this contrasts with their accurately drafted forms. He is concerned with producing an impression, using the heightened colours to move away from a realistic image.
