Newport Jazz Weekend runs from 20-22 July and is the first time this event has taken place. It is a celebration of the best of British Jazz including the virtuoso guitarist Martin Taylor, highly respected cornettist and raconteur Digby Fairweather, pianist Keith Ingham, trombonist Mark Nightingale and many others – in all, there are 12 headline acts taking place over five Newport venues. Every style of jazz is catered for, and the aim of the volunteer organisers is to promote jazz on the Isle of Wight and to encourage participation by local musicians where possible.

The Weekend will also include a “fringe” of public gigs by local musicians and also jazz education and workshops.

The entire Weekend is operated on a non-profit making business and is supported by the Arts Council for England as well as local businesses and individuals. Any surplus proceeds will be re-invested into next year’s event and a donation will be made to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
