TEHRAN TAXI (Iran) 2015 Dir: Jafar Panahi Cert 12A (UK) 1st/2nd Mar 7.30pm
Runs: 82 mins Cast:Jafar Panahi. In Persian.
When Iranian director Jafar Panahi was banned from making films for 20 years, his response was to drive around Tehran in a shared taxi rigged with hidden cameras. A colourful assortment of passengers tell tales about their life in the city and share what is on their minds: hospitals, pirated DVDs, mugging, executions and goldfish.
The dialogue flows fast and furious and although their exchanges are light-hearted and humorous, telling points are made about the repressive nature of Iranian society.
