When Tommaso, one of two sons returns home on holiday from his studies in Rome, he hopes to make the most a family reunion dinner to his parents with an unexpected announcement.

Just as he is about to, his elder brother upstages him with some surprising news of his own.

Needless to say, this is a shock for everyone, not least of all their father, but as weeks pass other events unfold that take change the lives of the whole family.

This is Italian filmmaking at its most delightful, combining pathos with comedy along with fine performances from the entire cast.
