Introduction to Marine Accident Investigation Richard North, Technical Manager, Marine Accident Investigation Branch

Richard North is the Technical Manager of the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). The MAIB is part of the Department for Transport (Central Government). Richard is responsible for the recovery and the analysis of all forms of electronic and technical evidence relating to marine accidents, on UK registered vessels and any other vessel in UK territorial waters. Richard will talk about the issues and problems relating to VDRs and its associated data. The MAIB’s involvement in trying to remedy these issues and their involvement in writing the new IMO Regulation, IEC Technical Standard and ISO Installation standards.
