An 8 mile walk from Freshwater Bay over Afton Down and then onto the beach at Compton Bay. From 5pm we will be rock-scrambling and wading to caves at Freshwater Bay. Finish at about 1900. You can join us for just the walk, the cave wading or for the whole thing. If you are wading with us you will get wet so bring spare clothes!

The IOW LDWA Group was re-formed in April 2013 after a seventeen-year lapse. Led by Ventnor author and former Royal Navy Warrant Officer David ‘Rowdy’ Yates.

The IOW LDWA is a friendly, expanding group and seeks to combine longer distance walking with sightseeing and a chance to meet like-minded people. A wide variety of coastal and inland walks have now been established to attract walkers of all ages. Distances from 10 to 73 miles are covered, and a 24-hour round-the-island walk is programmed each year for the same day (and direction) as the Round the Island Yacht Race. Most of the walks are quite casual, with lots of beaches and bars. Other walks leave less time for making sandcastles, and may incur some blisters! Most walks are circular, but some are linear. Lunch stops are usually taken at a pub or café. Various forms of public and private transport are used. Many of the group members live on the mainland and/or have holiday homes on the Island. Social events and occasional weekends away on the mainland are also organised.

You can follow the group on G+, Twitter @iowldwa, and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/LDWA.IOW/, however this FB page is a closed group and you must request to join. Walk reports are available on our blog https://iowldwa.wordpress.com/ and photos on our Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/iowldwa/

It is not mandatory to be a LDWA member to join any initial walks. However, you are expected to join the LDWA if you eventually wish to become a full or associate member of the group. LDWA Membership costs about £13 a year, and not only allows you to join (and support) the IOW Group, but also opens up access to a multitude of other groups and walks around the country. LDWA website: www.ldwa.org.uk/isleofwight

Membership of the LDWA also entitles you to some amazing discounts in Blacks, Goodyears Outdoors and IOW Pearl – who all give 10% discount of all items in their stores. So this means that your annual membership can easily be reimbursed!

New contacts are automatically included in their e-mailing list unless you let them know otherwise, and contacts can opt out from receiving e-mails at any time.

We look forward to walking and sharing adventures with you.
