Saturday May 17th brings a trio of internationally respected and acclaimed accordionists together for the first time.

Karen Tweed, known for her numerous collaborations with Kathryn Tickell, The Poozies, May Monday, Gordon Giltrap and The No 1 Ladies Accordion Orchestra has made the Isle of Wight her home and is busy planning a series of accordion events and curious collaborations to saunter around the island.

She has invited Karen Street, (based in Wells, Somerset) a superb accordionist, composer and saxophonist along with Alan Young, a renowned accordion tuner and brilliant accordionist, based in Ryde to join her for a spectacular evening at Holy Trinity Church in Ventnor.

"We have all been fans of each others' music and disciplines for years; Karen has an amazing jazz and classical repertoire, while Alan's repertoire of 1940s, 1950s and popular classics is second to none. We all share a love of French Musette Waltzes and the music that arises whenever we do meet for fun is a riot!

"My forte, I suppose, is folk music from the Celtic countries and Scandinavia. We will all be performing solo, in duos and as a trio, so anything could happen. It's also to raise funds for the Holy Trinity Organ Fund and the UK Association of Accordion Teachers, a very exciting body that has recently formed. We are hoping to raise awareness of how versatile the accordion can be and how much joy and fun it can bring. . .So there will be great music, a few stories. some background accordion information and laughter. You could also bring dancing shoes!"

Karen Tweed has been inspired to write a piece of music after a tree sculpture made by IOW tree sculptor Paul Sivell last May and both Karens are planning to write music for several of Paul's sculptures around the island. They have also been working with poems by Sue Roberts who visited elderly people with dementia and listened to their stories and turned those stories into poems.
